StrataExplorer
Base Application
It has never been a better time to purchase or
upgrade, since for the next 6 months the base application will be FREE! |

The most visual component of the base
application is the geographic information system
(GIS). It is used as the primary display and
selection interface. Version 2 has a new
proprietary GIS that stores all of the basemap, project, well, boring, cross-section,
and other spatial data for the application.
The base application of
StrataExplorer consists of several components that provide functionality to
both the base application and extension modules. These components are the database management,
geographical information system, license management, 3D
display, and import/export.
Database
Management
- Used to store, track, and retrieve
all the data in the application.
- Uses Microsoft Access databases.
- Automatic backup of databases.
Geographic
Information System
- Version 2 of StrataExplorer's GIS incorporates
a proprietary technology.
- Basemap, project, well and boring
location, cross-section location and other spatial data is stored in the
main database.
- Basemaps represent the geographic data as
a collection of layers.
- Version 2 comes with hundreds of
basemaps that cover most countries.
- Examples of layers are satellite images,
aerial photos, roads, lakes and streams, political boundaries, building
footprints, utility lines, and terrain.
- StrataExplorer can contain any number of
basemaps, different basemaps can be used for different countries or
regions, different clients, or different goals.
- Basemaps are starting point in application
and used to create, organize and select projects.
- Projects contain the same layers as the
basemap and may contain additional layers.
- Project, well, and boring data can be
spatially queried, selected, and reported from the basemap.
- Page documents can be created and customized to display and print a wide
variety of project data on one page.
3D Display
- 3D display can be used to show and
manipulate wells, borings, cross-sections, contour maps, solids, GIS
data, buildings and structures in 3 dimensions.
- Industry standard OpenGL is used to
generate the display.
- Displays can be panned and zoomed and
contain a light source that can be moved.
- The display of wells, borings,
cross-sections, contour maps, and solids can be turned off and on.
GIS data from the project map can be overlain.
- Contour maps can be displayed as a flat
surface or draped at the elevation of the grid nodes.
- Solids are automatically generated from
strata that have their top and bottoms defined by contour maps.
- Cutouts can be used to selectively
remove portions of solids.
- The transparency of contour maps and
project GIS overlays can be adjusted.
License
Management
- Controls base application and
extension module licenses
- Support for either stand-alone or
network licensing
Import/Export
- StrataExplorer projects can be exported and
imported in XML format.
- A wide variety of spatial data can be imported;
such as Shape (SHP), AutoCAD DWG, AutoCAD DXF, CAD DGN, Raster
JPG, Raster BMP, Raster GIF, ArcInfo or Surfer ASCII Grid, GPS
Exchange, USGS DEM, and SPOT BIL files.
- Project documents can
be printed or exported to a Windows Bitmap
(BMP), Joint Photographic
Export Group (JPEG), and Exchange Files.
- WinLoG and WinFence version 4 projects,
templates, and macros can
be exported.
- Boring and well log data can be
imported and exported to AGS (Association of Geotechnical and
Geoenvironmental Specialists) version 3 and 4 files.
- In the oil industry version, LogSleuth and CanStrat data can be
imported.
